Okay, I know this looks long, but please...
So, I ordered something for my boyfriend for Christmas from the F1 store online about a week ago. I put in all my information correctly, I KNOW I did - I'm anal and paranoid about ordering things online because I always think I'm going to make a mistake on my name or card number, etc., so I take my time and make sure things are correct! I submit everything and pull up the receipt, to make sure (again!) that everything's fine, and see that somehow, the shipping country has been changed from US to UK.
Now, once again, I KNOW I selected US, because I'm aware that F1 is based in the UK and I clearly don't want my gift going there. My whole address is correct, except for the country - clearly a glitch in their website! So I immediately send an email to customer service (I can't call overseas, I don't have the money for that and I didn't even know how to dial the damn number) and inform them that the country has mysteriously been changed.
Before I get a response from the customer service, I get an email the next day saying that my order has been shipped!
Shipped.. to North Hollywood, California, United Kingdom. Really.
First off, how is that even possible. There is NO such place! You'd think a business of this caliber would notice that the address is not a real place, and not ship it - I mean, WHERE the hell could they have sent it?! I'm pretty sure there is no North Hollywood or California in the UK!
So I get a response the day after that, saying that F1 is not responsible for anything because the order was made online and that if the order is lost in post, I will not be refunded.
I tell them that I triple checked my info before submitting everything and can only conclude that the mistake was from a glitch in their website and that I would really appreciate it if they could do all they could to get my order to me, Happy Holidays, blah blah.
I get another response, this time from some snooty bitch named Kelly, saying that everything is my fault and furthermore, if the order is returned to them due to the wrong address, they will be charging me a second time for shipping to send it to me in the states.
This freaking thing was not cheap and I am not rich, I saved up for it, and they're saying I won't get any of my money back if my order is lost, or they're going to double charge me for shipping if it's not, and all because their website fucked up and they're stupid enough to try to send something to North Hollywood, California, United Kingdom!!
I'm shocked.
And they've already billed me! I don't know what to do! There's no way for me to prove that I entered my info correctly, and at this point, I'd really just like to cancel the order and get my money back, but from what they've told me, that doesn't seem to be an option. Is this.. legal? Is there anything I can do? I mean, they're in a different country, I know I can't sue them. Am I just fucked..? =/
Merry Christmas, F1, thanks.

Kidding.
And I have no idea what you can do about that, sorry. I hope it workd out.
I dunno, if it were possible, I'd say cancel payment on the order A.S.A.P.
Okay, you wrote that there WAS a reciept, so you have at least a paper trail. To be honest, though, me giving legal advice from the opposite end of the continent won't help. I'd say look around and find someone who knows about overseas business and soak up every piece of advice they can give.
Good luck.
I've called the bank and I have to wait 30 days, giving them time to get my purchase to me, but after that if I still have not received it, they'll hopefully get my money back from them. I'm just worried that the package will show up at my apartment while I'm out here in Boston. I dono what will happen then -_-;; it's all a big mess.
This is the one area where credit cards trump debit cards. Refuting charges is a breeze.
