Prints?

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 11, 2010, 10:51 PM
I have had a few requests to make some of my photos available as prints in the past, and since Jake has just done it for some of his photos, I'm gonna do it too, damn it!

If you have a specific photo or drawing you'd like, let me know (though I'm only selling the ones I took myself, so no requests for ones that Jake took, please - ask him instead)

Prints? I think you could and should put out a calender or two of some of your work. I'm sure that the vampire series alone marketed and linked to other "Dark" type sites net wide could be a great seller and if you take orders but print it p.o.d. or (Print On Demand) you wouldn't be out the expense of a print run of several thousand copies.

I meant on this site, I'm not prepared to make my own prints and send them out on my own.

I'm sure you'll sell quite a few though Some artists feel that the split with D.A. is a bit lopsided favoring D.A. I don't know there cost and overhead So I couldn't say Aye or Nay on that. Some Artist are in this for arts sake and feel selling cheapens the purity of it but When I read that you were thinking of seeing if your work could make a few ducats by selling prints I thought I would just mention the calender idea that I felt would work well with your guys' work. as more people buy calenders then prints or posters. It was just an idea to keep in mind maybe as a project in the future. :)

I just changed the royalty number to 60-70 instead of the 20 dA suggests so I'm fine with how much I make from the prints - I used to think they took too much from you as well, but you can change it so I've decided to sell my prints here. I also definitely don't think selling your artwork cheapens it, that's kind of a ridiculous idea.. it's your craft, and of course you get joy from it and it can be an outlet for you, but what is the point if you're completely broke when you could be making money for your hard work...
I was actually thinking of selling a calendar because you can make them on this site, so I probably will. Just not on my own, I'm not prepared to do that and don't have the money for it.

On the prints then...Coolness. I'm happy to hear your thoughts on selling art work as I've never understood the logic of "sales cheapens the purity of the art"? Norman Rockwell didn't give his work away to his publishers for free And if there were print, calender, photobooks, that were affordable to Vincent Van Gogh or Pablo Picasso they would have done them, If an Artist doesn't have a patron making true art can take a backseat to the 'Mundy" world. Thank You for your thoughts on this as I agree with them without question. And yes I may buy A print or three.
